terms refer to Advance Auto Parts, Inc., its predecessor, its subsidiaries and
their respective operations. Our fiscal year consists of 52 or 53 weeks ending
on the Saturday closest to December 31 of each year. Fiscal 2003 included 53
weeks of operations. All other fiscal years presented included 52 weeks of
operations.
Overview
We primarily operate within the United States automotive aftermarket industry,
which includes replacement parts (excluding tires), accessories, maintenance
items, batteries and automotive chemicals for cars and light trucks (pickup
trucks, vans, minivans and sport utility vehicles). We currently are the second
largest specialty retailer of automotive parts, accessories and maintenance
items to "do-it-yourself," or DIY, and ?do-it-for-me,? or DIFM, customers in the
United States, based on store count and sales.Advance Auto Parts, Inc. (Advance) is a specialty retailer of automotive
aftermarket parts, accessories, batteries and maintenance items
primarily operating within the United States. The Company operates in
two segments: Advance Auto Parts (AAP), and Autopart International (AI).
The AAP segment is comprised of its store operations, which operate
under the trade names Advance Auto Parts and Advance Discount Auto
Parts. The AI segment consists of the operations of Autopart
International, Inc. which operates under the Autopart International
trade name. The Company’s stores carry a product line for cars, vans,
sport utility vehicles and light trucks. The Company serves both
do-it-yourself (DIY), and do-it-for-me (Commercial), customers. On
December 31, 2012, the Company acquired B.W.P. Distributors, Inc.
